VINCENZO BIGNAMO LAVDENSI ASSVMPTIS Traduzione: A Camillo Gessi, bolognese, dottore nell'uno e nell'altro diritto e senatore, che temprò l'abbagliante candore del purissimo genio nelle fornaci della passione per lo studio, anzi si trasformò tutto in studiosa polvere, che, per il bene degli scolari, si rese in perpetuo malleabile coi preziosi sudori della gloriosa fronte, che infine coi mantici dell'immortale plauso potè battere e foggiare le adamantine pietre degli animi, a tal punto che, se le pareti del tempio dell'eternità potessero crollare, egli da solo riuscirebbe a restaurarle: all'uomo imcomparabile per onestà, l'una e l'altra università dei giuristi, dopo le vitali piramidi dei cuori che al nome di lui eresse nei suoi petti, innalza anche questa pietra a testimonio della sua gratitudine, l'anno 1626, addì 10 dicembre, con l'assenso di Mattia Benediter austriaco, priore, di Tommaso de Lettis da Ortona e Vespasiano Monaldino da Ravenna e Cristiano a Linden alemanno, e Giovanni Cano da Sassari e Francesco Romeo da Finale, presidi, e Giulio Cesare Castaldi da Modena e Vincenzo Bignami da Lodi, assunti. Translation: To Camillo Gessi of Bologna, most excellent Doctor of both laws and most illustrious Senator, who reduced the brightness of the purest genius in the furnaces of the love of learning as if he made himself entirely into studious dust, who for the benefit of the young students rendered himself perpetually malleable to the precious sweat of his glorious brow, who lastly could so catch and reduce the adamantine stones of souls to the breezes of immortal applause that if ever the walls of the eternal temple could fall, he on his own would be able to restore them. (??) To a man incomparable in honesty, the two Universities of law, after the living pyramids of hearts it erected internally in his honour, raised also externally this stone as a witness of gratitude, 10 December 1626, with the agreement of the Prior, Mattia Benediter from Austria, Tommaso de Lettis of Ortona, Vespasiano Monaldino of Ravenna, Cristiano a Linden from Germany, Giovanni Cano of Sassari and Francesco Romeo of Finale, the Presidents, and Giulio Cesare Castaldi of Modena and Vincenzo Bignami of Lodi, officers responsible.
