Perciò eccoti l'augusta aquila romana dal saturnio teatro di Marcello fin qua mandata da Lui nel seno di Bologna, madre degli studi, perchè dall'inclita stirpe dei Savelli i nemici fossero messi in fuga. E il successo fu veramente quello che s'aspettava. Essendo capitano l'em.mo principe Fabrizio, l'anno 1649, addì 19 giugno, presso San Pietro in Casale, la cavalleria nemica fu sbaragliata in modo che non tornasse più a invadere lo Stato della Chiesa. E frattanto fu presente anche l'aquila Saulia del genovese Ottaviano, non meno col serafico rostro della celeste eloquenza che col latteo scudo felicemente arrossato dal sangue nemico. Questa iscrizione conservi la memoria di così bene auspicata impresa; e infatti è eretta con animo lieto da Giovanni Battista Franchi, patrizio genovese e priore degli studi e parente dei Savelli, l'anno del giubileo 1650. Translation: The threefold Jupiter always supports his only-begotten daughter Pallas. For this reason here is the famous eagle of the Romans sent by him from the Saturnian theatre of Marcellus here to the lap of Bologna, mother of universities, in order that the enemy should be driven out by the glorious family of the Savelli. And what was ordained fortunately happened. With the eminent Prince Fabrizio in command, on 19 June 1649, near San Pietro in Casale, the cavalry of the enemy was stopped and destroyed so that it could not again invade the Papal states. Meanwhile the Saulian eagle of the Genoese Ottaviano was also present, no less at the seraphic pulpit of celestial eloquence than on the milky shield happily purpled with the blood of enemies. This inscription preserves the memory of such an auspicious action, for it is erected with all possible willingness by Giovanni Battista Franchi, patrician from Genoa, Prior of the University and relative of Savelli, in the year of the Jubilee 1650.
