MDCXXXVII Traduzione: A Vincenzo Montecalvi, patrizio bolognese, pubblico professore di filosofia per 34 anni, che la venerazione degli uomini meritò con l'avita nobiltà e la gloria della sapienza, e diè lustro alla patria in ugual misura con la prodigiosa erudizione e non lasciandosene mai allontanare, benché fosse invitato con grandissime offerte nelle principali Università d'Europa, mentre ridava vita alla declinante filosofia rifondandola sui testi secondo l'antica serietà della ricerca e promovendo e incitando il fervore della gioventù. A lui defunto l'università degli Artisti questa stemmata pietra, espressione di salda gratitudine, ricusata dalla sua modestia in vita, dedicò, a spese pubbliche e private, adornandola anche quelli dei suoi alunni che più vivamente mosse l'emulazione dell'affetto, l'anno 1637. Translation: In the name of God, to Vincenzo Montecalvi, Bolognese patrician, public Professor of philosophy for 34 years, who deserved the veneration of all men for his ancestral nobility and for the glory of his wisdom. He observed the interests of his homeland no less than his prodigious learning because in spite of the lucrative offers he received from the principal universities of Europe, he never allowed himself to be taken away from her. At the same time he gave life back to philosophy, which was in decline, by constructing monuments of learning with ancient seriousness and encouraging and increasing the enthusiasm of youth. The University of arts places this stone inscription of firm gratitude, refused by his modesty while he was alive, at public and private expense and with adornment from those of his pupils most moved by emulation of affection, 1637.
