Eccoti Antonio Merenda da Forlì, anzitutto giurisperitissimo. Di qui questo sommo maestro delle leggi fu invitato dai principali Ginnasii d'Italia con l'offerta d'altissimi stipendi e in tal modo che quelli che non riuscirono ad averlo maestro, a gara lo chiamarono e votarono. Alla fine questo bolognese Archiginnasio unicamente a sè lo avvinse me suo professore eminente delle leggi; ivi egli come nel suo cielo e nella luna del suo stemma gentilizio ebbe due stelle seguaci, cioè Giuliano e Giuseppe figli d'un suo fratello, pubblici professori di diritto. Morì tra le lagrime di tutti; e non solo stampò volumi di giurisprudenza ma ogni scienza, coi quali lasciò, in sua vece, i raggi del versatile ingegno e viva immagine di sincera pietà. Questi lineamenti della vita del tanto benemerito Merenda, legato all'aurea sua memoria, disegnò Giovanni Paolo Nicelli da Piacenza, priore dei Giuristi l'anno 1650. Translation: Whoever you are here, admire the glory of almost all the sciences. Here before you is Antonio Merenda, patrician of Forlì, one of the leading legal experts. From here this supreme master of law was invited by the principal universities of Italy with offers of very high salaries, and in such a way that those who did not obtain him as a teacher emulously wished for him and elected him.
