A Lazzaro Pallavicini, nobilissimo rampollo del patriziato genovese, che, consacrato l'instancabile corso della sua vita all'Apostolica Sede, chiamato poi al chiericato e decanato della Camera e quindi alla congregazione dei Monti, esercitò virilmente la prefettura dell'annona, e finalmente conseguì la porpora da Clemente IX per i suoi grandissimi meriti, da ultimo felicemente sostenne la legazione bolognese e in quella veramente si mostrò parente della clemenza: onde, per questo felice congiungimento d'aquile, col rispettoso assenso del protettore e priore delle due università dei Giuristi, qui sorge questo monumento perenne l'anno 1671. G. B. Piccini patrizio sarzanese priore dedica. Translation: Fame places monuments to merit. To the most eminent and reverend Prince Lazzaro Pallavicini, most noble scion of a family of Genoese patricians, who devoted the tireless course of his life to the Holy see, called to the clergy and deaconry of the chamber and from there to the congregation of the mountains, who exercised the prefecture of food-supply with great forcefulness, at length created a Cardinal by Clement IX for his high merits, lastly achieved success as Legate at Bologna, and in this truly showed himself to be related to clemency. Under this fortunate conjunction of the eagles, with the agreement of the Protector and Prior of the University of both laws, this lasting monument is brought into being, 1671. The most famous Gian Battista Piccini, patrician from Sarzana, gives and dedicates it.
