Translation: To Antonio Colonna Branciforti, famous Cardinal and Legate from the flank of the province of Bologna, because after administering the state justly and successfully, he favoured the cause of studies with immortal fame. He reclaimed and restored the laws and embellished, improved and enlarged the University itself. He received it into his control and patronage, father of the homeland, father of letters, father of all good things. The whole order of the Councillors of philosophy and medicine and the leaders of the order, the Prior Doctor Francesco Angeli of Montepulciano, and the Presidents Doctors Francesco Febbrari of Modena and Giuseppe Martinelli of Desenzano, devoted to his name and greatness, dedicate this eternal testimony of allegiance and gratitude in order that it should remain to the eternal memory of future generations in the year 1776.
