Né delle lodi che le sono dovute è lecito defraudare la virtù, né della sua virtù è lecito defraudare il conte e cavaliere Giacomo Maria Jacchini bolognese, membro dei collegi filosofico e medico, nell'uno dei quali è decano e nell'altro è uno degli anziani e di entrambi è l'onore; lettore per 40 anni e più nel patrio archiginnasio, finalmente gode di quel meritato riposo che si è guadagnato con tante veglie, se pur è riposo l'esercizio negli ospedali di quelle arti pratiche che dalla cattedra insegnò speculativamente. Tutto il resto, che la modestia non sopporterebbe, lo bandirà la fama. Questa muta pietra attesti soltanto i meriti di così grande uomo e l'omaggio del conte Giovanni Cocconito [di Montiglio] del Monferrato, priore delle due università degli Artisti, essendo presidi Giovanni Battista Maffiotti e Giovanni Battista Piana, l'anno 1657. Translation: In the name of God, may the stone say what fame says, neither should virtue be defrauded of its praises, nor should be defrauded of his virtue the Count and Knight Giacomo Maria Jacchini of Bologna, member of the Colleges of philosophy and medicine, Dean of one and among the senior members of the other, an adornment to both, teacher in the University of his homeland for more than forty years, at last he enjoys that deserved rest, which he has won by so many nights of work, if it is rest to practise in the hospital those arts which he taught theoretically in the lecture rooms.
