ANNO SALVTIS MDCXXX Traduzione: A Ioannis Kottounios, patrizio di Berea, greco di nascita, filosofo, medico, dottore in sacra teologia e cavaliere, che, dopo aver onorato in questo Archiginnasio per 13 interi anni la cattedra primaria di letteratura greca, dalla singolare saggezza del senato bolognese fu assunto alla cattedra di filosofia per il bene comune e la adorna e illustra con sommo plauso di tutti. Provvedendo alla perennità dell'incomparabile uomo, le due università degli Artisti eressero questo monumento a loro spese, con l'assenso del priore Innocenzo Cremonio, nobile di Reggio, e dei presidi Antonio Mazzoni da Modena e Gianfrancesco Caldarini da Mantova, l'anno 1630. Translation: In the name of God, to Ioannis Kottounios, patrician from Berea, of the Greek nation, Doctor of philosophy, medicine and sacred theology and golden Knight, who after adorning the principal chair of Greek literature in this University for more than thirteen years with extraordinary eloquence, was, by the exceptional wisdom of the senate of Bologna, elevated to the chair of philosophy for the common good, which he adorned and illuminated to the highest possible acclaim of everyone. Considering the endurance of this incomparable man, the two Universities of arts at their own expense erected this monument, with the agreement of the famous Innocenzo Cremonio, noble from Reggio, most worthy Prior and of the Presidents Antonio Mazzoni of Modena and Gianfrancesco Caldarini of Mantua, 1630.
