MDCLXXXVII Traduzione: Al conte Domenico Gualandi fedelissimo interprete dell'uno e dell'altro diritto e nobile bolognese, oriundo dall'antichissima famiglia toscana dei Gualandi, illustre a Pisa, un tempo signora del Frignano; ancor giovane meritò la cattedra mattutina di diritto ordinario in questo Archiginnasio, poi, preceduto dai meriti degli avi e accompagnato dalla sua propria virtù, fu chiamato dal serenissimo granduca di Toscana Cosimo III tra gli auditori della Rota di Siena e i consiglieri giudiziari della stessa amministrazione; fu richiamato in patria e alla cattedra onorevolmente e ancor più utilmente; finalmente dall'illustrissimo senato bolognese fu destinato a sostenere l'ufficio paterno di primo segretario, come coadiutore e designato successore; uomo per chiarezza di dottrina e bontà di carattere caro così alla studiosa università dei Giuristi come a tutti in ogni luogo: i fratelli Francesco Antonio e Orazio, conti dei Franceschini Ettorei, nobili e patrizi da Imola, priori successivamente negli anni 1686 e 1687, in segno di grato ossequio posero l'anno 1687. Translation: In the name of God, to Count Domenico Gualandi, Bolognese noble and most faithful interpreter of both laws, tracing his descent from the most ancient family of the Gualandi in Tuscany, very famous at Pisa, and once lords of Frignano. When he was still young he deserved the ordinary morning chair of law, then, preceded by the merits of his family and accompanied by his own virtue, he was called by the famous Grand Duke Cosimo III of Tuscany to a place among the auditors of the Rota in Siena and the judicial councillors of the same administration. He was called back to his homeland and his chair, honourably and even more usefully. Finally he was appointed by the most illustrious senate of Bologna to support his father's office as first secretary, as assistant with eventual right of succession. To a man dear to the students of the University of law, as to everyone everywhere for his clarity of teaching and sweetness of character, the brothers Francesco Antonio and Orazio, Counts of the Franceschini Ettorei, nobles and patricians from Imola, successively Priors in 1686 and 1687, placed this monument as a sign of gratitude and respect in 1687.
