IOSEPHO BENALIO BRIXIENSI PRIORE ANNO DOMINI M D CLXXXI Traduzione: Il nome dei Sanuti Pellicani scolpì nel passato secolo in questo ateneo Alessandro dottore dell'uno e dell'altro diritto; lo rinnova ora Giovanni Battista, dottore collegiato dei Giuristi, che un tempo insegnando giurisprudenza nella Sapienza a Roma, ora pratica criminale a Bologna, e professando così dalla cattedra come nel foro, si rende illustre coi giusti consigli che dà ai clienti e con gli opportuni soccorsi che offre ai condannati, mentre frattanto o aiuta o risolve le molte congregazioni in patria, i diversi affari dei principi, ai quali è carissimo, le cause dell'ordine dei Santi Maurizio e Lazzaro, e tra tante e così grandi faccende non trascura, come fossero un riposo dopo il lavoro, la poesia nell'Accademia dei Gelati, la musica, l'astrologia e l'astronomia. A tanto uomo pose questo marmo l'università dei Giuristi, a testimonianza del valore di lui e del proprio ossequio, assentendo il priore Giuseppe Benalli da Brescia, l'anno 1681. Translation: Alexander, Doctor of both laws, inscribed the name of the Sanuti Pellicani in the University of this homeland in the last century; now Giovanni Battista, Doctor of the College of both laws renews it. He once taught jurisprudence at the Sapienza in Rome, now he practises criminal law in Bologna, professing both in the lecture room and in the law court. He makes himself famous with the good advice he gives his clients and with the needed help he offers to the condemned, while in the meantime he either assists or resolves at the many meetings in this region, the different business of princes, to whom he is very dear, and the famous affairs of the religious knights of San Maurizio and San Lazzaro. Among so many and such large affairs he also finds time for poetry in the Accademia dei Gelati, for music, astronomy and astrology, as a rest from business. The University of law places this marble monument to such a man, in testimony of his virtue and their respect, with the agreement of the famous Prior Giuseppe Benalli of Brescia, in 1681.
