MDCX Traduzione: A Gian Pietro Sementi, cittadino bolognese, illustre filosofo e medico, cavaliere e conte palatino, che con somma lode nell'Università di Bologna spiega la pratica medica sopraordinaria, uomo fornito d'ogni genere di scienza e di virtù, che ugualmente valente, come fosse ambidestro, nella chirurgia e nella farmaceutica, per primo importò nella sua patria l'uso dell'arte spagirica: le due università degli Artisti dedicarono questo monumento d'un valore a lungo e con evidenza dimostrato, essendo priore il conte Paolo Coccapani da Modena, presidi Carlo Sigonio da Modena e Gian Francesco Bosco da Ferrara.Che cosa sia il ferro e la virtù del fuoco e delle erbe, che cosa sia la terra e il mare e ciò per cui girano gli astri, che cosa possa risanare il corpo ammalato, il Sementi lo sa e lo spiega perfettissimamente. 1610 Translation: In the eternal name of God, to Gian Pietro Sementi, citizen of Bologna, famous philosopher and physician, Knight and Count Palatine, who explained practical medicine at the University of Bologna in extraordinary lectures which received the highest praise, a man embellished with every kind of knowledge and virtue, of equal value, one might say ambidextrous, in surgery and pharmacy. He first brought the use of the spagyric technique to his homeland with success. The two Universities of philosophy and medicine dedicated this monument of well-known and long shown virtue, when the illustrious Count Paolo Coccapani of Modena was Prior and Carlo Sigonio of Modena and Gian Francesco Bosco of Ferrara were Presidents. What iron and fire are and what are the powers of herbs, what the earth is and the sea and the medium in which the stars move, what can heal the sick members of the human body, Sementi knows and explains best of all. 1610.
